Safe from the first brushstroke
Every drawing on ArtClass was made by a child. Here is how we look after it, and after them.
Why we built it this way
We started ArtClass as parents. We wanted our own children's artwork to outlive the fridge door, but not at the cost of their privacy. So we set one rule before writing any code: a child's artwork, and everything about that child, belongs to their family.
That rule is why a parent says yes before anything happens, why artwork stays private unless a parent chooses otherwise, and why a deletion request removes the actual image files, not just a record pointing to them.
If you ever have a question about how we handle your child's information, email info@artclass.me. A real person reads every message.
The journey of a drawing
What happens to your child's artwork, step by step.
- 1
The art room
Your child's teacher photographs or uploads the artwork. At this point nobody else can see it, not even you.
- 2
Your invitation
The teacher sends you a personal link that works only once. It shows our Parental Consent Notice and asks you to decide.
- 3
Your yes
You make three separate choices, none of them ticked for you:
- Needed to take part: seeing your child's artwork and ordering keepsakes made from it
- Your call: showing chosen pieces on public pages
- Your call: emails about products and offers
We keep a record of exactly what you agreed to, when, and which version of the notice you read.
- 4
Your child's portfolio
Their work now appears in a private portfolio that only you, your child and their teacher can open.
- 5
A keepsake, if you want one
When you order a print, mug or book, the artwork is used to make that product for you and nothing else.
- 6
Whenever you decide
Change your choices, withdraw consent or ask us to delete everything from the Privacy & data section of your account.
Our promises to families
The art is theirs.
Your child owns every piece they make. We never claim it.
You hold the key.
No student's artwork is shown to anyone or turned into a product until a parent agrees. That applies to every child, of every age, in every country we serve. A school's or teacher's approval is never enough on its own.
Private unless you say otherwise.
Only a parent can make artwork public, with a separate choice, and a parent can reverse it at any moment.
A first name, never more.
On a public page we show your child's first name only. No surname, school, class or grade, and a child's name never appears in a web address.
Less is safer.
We collect only what the service needs. We do not ask for a child's date of birth or gender.
Not for sale, not for ads.
Children's data is never sold, never used for advertising and never handed to anyone for their own purposes. ArtClass has no advertising trackers on any page.
No surprises.
We name every company that touches your data, and we will name any new one before it receives anything.
Questions parents ask us
Does AI see my child's name?
No. Teachers can choose to use optional AI suggestions for titles, descriptions and stories. The AI receives the artwork image, a short description and the child's grade, so the writing suits their reading level. It never receives a name, it does not use this data to train its models, and a person reviews every suggestion before a family sees it.
Where is my child's information stored?
In Ireland, inside the European Economic Area, under the protection of the GDPR. A few providers in the United States handle payments, email and the optional AI features, under Standard Contractual Clauses. Section 7 of our Privacy Policy lists every provider and what each receives.
How long do you keep it?
Only as long as it is needed, and never indefinitely. Our Data Retention & Deletion Policy gives the period for each kind of information and the reason for it.
What happens if I ask you to delete everything?
We remove your child's records, every artwork including the image files, AI generated text, portfolio books and any student login, within 30 days, and email you when it is done. If the law requires us to keep the financial record of an order, we keep the transaction with your child's identity removed.
How do you keep it secure?
- Access depends on each person's role and is checked on our servers, never trusted from the browser.
- Rules built into our database make it impossible to show artwork publicly without a recorded parental approval.
- All data is encrypted in transit.
- Consent and deletion records can be added to but never edited.
- If a breach ever affects personal data, we notify the relevant authority within 72 hours where the law requires, and we tell the families affected.
For teachers and schools
ArtClass takes the consent work off your plate. You invite parents, and they give consent directly to us. You can upload and organise your students' artwork, but only a parent can make a child's work public, so there is never pressure on you to decide for a family.
